"Oocyte donation" INDICATIONS FOR OOCYTE DONATION

Egg donation is a process in which a fertile woman donates an egg, or oocyte, to another woman to help her conceive. It is a part of assisted reproductive technology or ART.

The indications for oocyte donation are all related to the lack of availability of high-quality oocytes capable of producing healthy offspring. Functionally, four broad categories of patients may be identified.

  • These are ovarian failure,


  • Genetic abnormalities in the recipient that she would like to avoid passing on to her progeny

  • The depletion of high-quality oocytes (diminished ovarian reserve),


  • Inaccessible ovaries
